Level 2 (Process)

Level 2 is currently a working process of adding in more information into the word search. Clues in the crossword will also be of different colours based on the stage of the cycle the answer is from.

Level One (Process)

Level one Crossword. Currently a working progress. Students are given clues at the bottom of the page and based on the clues they will fill out the gaps in the Crossword. Level One will be the easiest of 3 levels. As each level moves on, the clues will become more difficult and other aspects of the Krebs cycle will be added to the Crossword to make completing it a lot more difficult.

My Crossword (Level 3)

The third level of the Crossword puzzle will prove the most difficult for students. The puzzle will require the student to have not only knowledge of the chemical substrates, products, coenzymes but also the enzymes. Unlike the previous levels of crossword puzzles the third and final test will not have any letters filled into the puzzle. Students will have to ensure that they know the answers themselves and are able to fill in the answers based on the clues given below the puzzle.

My Crossword (Level 2)

The second level of the crossword puzzle will have more answers to be filled in by the students. The second level of clues, not only will the students have to fill in answers for the main chemical substrates and products, they will also have to fill in the coenzymes which occur throughout the Krebs cycle process. In this crossword puzzle the student will no longer have the assistance of the colour coding. I decided to still have one letter filled in some of the answers in the puzzle. The letters filled in as no longer the first letter of the answer but a random letter within the answer.

My Crossword (Level 1)

This is the first level of my crossword puzzles. The first level will be the easiest for students. The first level will have the least amount of answers to be filled in. The main steps within the Krebs cycle will be all that needs to be filled in. The clues given will also be colour coded based on the stage of the cycle the answer is from. I have also added into the actually crossword the first letter of each answer as a slight assistance for the student. The letters that are filled in are also coloured coded to match the clues given below the puzzle.

Background and Font

Background

I decided to go away from the standard white background for normal crossword puzzle. I chose this old paper styled background to give the crossword a different and more interesting type of look.

Font

The font I decided to use for the crossword puzzle is known as OCR A Std. I chose this font because it reminds me of an old style gaming font.

Crossword Puzzle

The thought of crossword puzzles as well as word searches came into my head one day when I was researching ways teachers have used to help their students learn a certain topic. The idea of the Crossword Puzzle or Word Search was more to test the students knowledge of the Krebs cycle as well as their spelling after the initial teaching had been done.

After brainstorming between doing a crossword puzzle or word search I swayed towards doing a crossword puzzle. The reason for choosing the crossword puzzle was because I thought there would be a wee bit more freedom and flexibility when it came to changing the level of difficulty of the cross word as well as the possibility of the different age ranges it could be available to.

The crossword would not only testing the student's knowledge of the spelling of the different words in the krebs cycle but it will also be able to testing their actual knowledge on what the different steps within cycle mean.

Students can learn the process of the cycle by just memorise each step but the crossword puzzle's main aim is to ensure that their in knowledge of the process is indepth and their understanding is of a high standard.
